Today was a hive of activity at school today when all of the English Class pupils participated in various information technology projects. Since there were not enough computers for everyone to use at the same time, we made use of high tech and low tech technology for our learning.
Fifth and sixth graders learned about what it takes to be successful online. This meant learning about their own digital footprints, how to be safe online, how to be secure online, being responsible, email etiquette, and the pitfalls of believing everything that is posted online. We discussed the definition of cyber-bullying and social media. We also talked about the great harm it can cause. Later pupils presented their completed work to third and fourth graders and explained what they had learned in simple terms.
Keyboarding and Logging in
Second graders and first graders paired up to practice using the keyboard. First they practiced letter recognition in both Finnish and English. Then they practiced typing their own names. They learned the parts of the keyboard and practiced logging on to our school’s server.
Making Halloween Bingo Cards
Third and fourth graders created their own personal Halloween bingo cards by copy-pasting clip art to empty bingo card templates. The cards turned out really well! Later in the day after a lively discussion about the dangers of the Internet, pupils heard presentations by 5th and 6th graders about being safe online.
The day was full of all kinds of interesting learning experiences for English Class pupils.
