The 96th anniversary of Finland’s independence was celebrated at school today at an all-school assembly. Our assembly guest speaker Eila Ratsula captured the attention of every single pupil with stories of her experiences as a child growing up in Pori during two different wars. Her father was a pupil at our school when it first opened 101 years ago. Ms. Ratsula was also a pupil at Cygnaeus School. In fact, it was where she met her husband-to-be. You could have heard a pin drop when she told about a bomb dropping through the roof our our school.

English Class pupils along with other Cygnaeus School pupils formed a lantern procession to the flagpole in front of Cygnaeus School to raise the flag.
