English Class fifth and sixth graders are participating in the Matilda Reading Programme in their Finnish classes. Details about the programme can be found in Finnish on the National Board of Educations’ site at this link. First of all pupils created a reading plan. (see the photo above) Pupils choose books to read from lists of books representing ten different reading genres. The pupils independently borrow the books from the local library. After reading each book, pupils get to choose creative, open-ended tasks to complete relating to the book they read. After having read one book representing each of the genres and having completed the related tasks, pupils receive a reading diploma.
