All of Cygaeus School enjoyed a wonderful dress rehearsal Christmas programme this morning which will be seen later this evening by parents and friends. The great thing about the programme is that everyone participated in some way at every grade level. First and second grade pupils used creative movement to interpret the music, “Walking in the Air” from the beloved film, Snowman.
Third grade pupils reenacted the tale of Bethlehem with Mary, Joseph, the innkeepers, angels and shepherds. Both the First Noel and Silent Night were sung in both English and Finnish. Fourth graders put on a rousing play about how Aleksis Kivi’s Seven Brothers celebrated one Christmas. One group of pupils acted seamlessly as narrators and voiced characters. A group of seven boys pantomimed the actions of the seven brothers. It was really well done!
Fifth graders danced a jolly dance to Jingle Bells. The choreography was planned by an intern at our school. Sixth grade pupils ended the show on an upbeat with a rap song that they all collaborated on about Christmas and the end of school. Parts of the rap were in Finnish and parts in English. The music classes’ chorus, Synkoopi, closed the programme with a song. Teachers and pupils alike agreed that the programme was diversified and very well practiced. Everything went smoothly.
