Learning to Measure

English Class second graders have been practising measuring this week. They measured different things in the classroom, first by using all kinds of things for measuring like their hands, multilinks, feet-lengths and even steps. They discovered that the distance from the classroom to the school cafeteria is somewhere between 60 and 80 steps long – depending on the length of the steps you take. (-and that’s why we need something more standard to measure!) They also tried to find things that were as long as the one meter ruler we have in the classroom. They were such great estimators!

Measuring practise continued in crafts class where we measured yarn for doing some finger crocheting. Both girls and boys were so excited that they made a lot of bracelets and necklaces later on!

Together with measuring we have been practising  body parts. At the end of the week we had a little game about all the body parts we have learnt, not to mention the “Body parts” song the second graders have learnt to sing and dance!
