English Class third graders Tiira and Saffron worked on an independent study project in November and December. The project was about how Christmas is celebrated globally. Together the girls explored the traditions of ten countries throughout the world. Those countries were Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, Sweden and the United States. Initially the girls learned where these countries are located on the world map, their capitals, how to say “Merry Christmas” in each country, who the bearer of gifts is in each country, as well as many other facts related to Christmas.
The girls also learned to make QR-codes independently so that they could add the codes linked to Christmas music from different countries to their Christmas Around the World display box. Before the Christmas break the girls presented what they learned to their classmates who showed great interest in what the girls shared with them. The QR codes added a nice interactive element to the display along with the pockets containing Christmas Around the World fact cards. Great job, Saffron and Tiira!
