The charming book, Diary of a Wombat, written by Jackie French and illustrated by Bruce Whatley, was the inspiration of an interesting project for English Class second graders. After reading the delightful book, the second graders began to keep diaries of their own for a week.
Every morning during circle time the second graders read their diary entries to their classmates. They were quite impressed with one another’s efforts!
Their teacher, Ms. Anu, was also impressed with their work and that sparked the idea that the second graders could share their diaries with others.
Today the second graders visited the kindergarten class and they read their diaries to one or two kindergarten pupils. There was lots of focus and appreciation from the kindergarten pupils as they listened.
Writing and reading to one another, as well as to others was a very enriching experience and will surely serve to encourage and support the pupils in more writing and reading!
