English Class kindergarten children joined our English Class first and second graders today for a workshop to practice telling time.
One of the activities was playing a memory matching game of clock faces and times. The children played in mixed groups where each group had a second grader, a first grader and a child from kindergarten.
The second graders took their roles as peer teachers very seriously. They did a good job of sharing what they have learned and passing it on to the younger pupils. Research has proved conclusively that learning from peers is a form of cooperative learning that results in various advantageous learning outcomes.
Another activity of the Telling Time Workshop was playing Time Bingo. The children were very attentive as they listened for a time that was notated on their card! It was an exciting way to put into use what had been learned.
