‘Break an Egg’ Reading Practice

cvc eggs

During English lessons the English Class first graders have been learning to read consonant-vowel-consonant (cvc) words. On Thursday before Easter holidays the first graders played a fun game where they each took an egg back to their seat and then opened the egg. Every egg contained letter tiles which needed to be placed in the correct order to make a word. The word then had to be written next to the number on the paper that corresponded to the number on the egg.

The first graders were very excited about the game and the challenge of creating words from the letters did not daunt them one tiny bit.

Unfortunately time ran out before the first graders were able to complete their lists of words. However, this was such a gem of a game that we will continue cvc practise using eggs after the Easter holidays, too.
